Napoleon left Smolensk on November,2 and on November,3 he arrived to Krasny. Here he had known that Kutuzov was one march from him and decided to stop in Krasny and wait for the Corps of Marshals Davout and Ney coming.
At this time his usual energy returned to Napoleon and in spite of the hard disorder in the French army he made a decision to try his fortune again though now he could fully rely only on the Imperial Guard that still kept the order.
Early in the morning of November,5 Napoleon said : "It's enough for me to play the Emperor, now I have to be a general again". He came to his troops staying before Krasny near the Uvarovo village. After inspecting the positions Napoleon ordered to attack the village in that was defended by the troops of the Chernigovsky regiment.
A heated fight developed near the village...
