Through the fire (The picture by Vereschagin) Napolen having to escape from the Kremlin, left it and went on foot to Arbat Street. The fire has reached its culmination and turned Moscow into something like a labyrinth of fire and it was very easy to get lost and perish there. This picture by Vereschagin makes a strange impression: the burnig mass of fire and the figures of Napoleon and two his soldiers in it. There is something mystical and apocalyptical in this picture.
