Emperor Alexander I (The portrait by Dow) Emperor Alexander I was born on December, 12, 1777. He was the eldest son of Emperor Paul (Pavel). Alexander's childhood passed under vigilant surveilance of his Grandmother Empress Catherine the Great that loved her grandsons, especially the eldest one, Alexander. The Empress managed her grandsons' upbringing by herself very carefully.
