The Ice Battle (Part 1)
The co-called Ice-battle happened in 1242 between the Russian troops of Prince Alexander Nevsky and joined troops of Teutonic and Livonian knights on the ice of the Chudskoe Lake. The place of battle was chosen by Prince Alexander not by accident: he knew in what places of the lake the ice was thicker and where it was rather thin. So he arranged the Russian troops on the place with the thickest ice and after the fierce fighting he could press back the heavy Teutonic knights on the very thin ice. The ice broke under their weight and the main part on knights went down in the lake. Perhaps you saw the old Russian film "Alexander Nevsky" with the excellent pictures of this battle. In our little diorama we tried to show the beginning of this battle: the charge of the Teutonic knight and the Russian troops on the ice of the Chudskoe Lake.
All figures are made by Zvezda and painted by ourselves.
