Ivan Fedorovich Paskevich (1782-1856) General-Field-Marshal (1829) Paskevich graduated from The Page Military School (1800). He participated in the Russian-Turkish war 1806-1812. He distinguished in the military actions at the fortress of Varna. During the campaigns of 1812 and 1813-1814 he commanded the 26th Infantry Division and then the 2nd Grenadier Division. Under his command this infantry division that was a part of the 2nd Western Army of Prince Bagration participated in the battles of Saltanovka, Smolensk, Borodino, Maloyaroslavets and Vyazma. Also he took part in the capture of Paris in 1814 commanding a grenadier division. In 1817-1819 he was attached to Great Prince Michail Pavlovich, and after this he commanded the Guard Infantry Division. But the most rise of his military career began during the reign of Nickolay I. Being a (the) Corps commander Paskevich was a member of the Supreme Court in the prosecution of the Decembrists. From 1826 he commanded the Russian troops in the Transcaucasus. From March of 1827 he was the Russian Emperor's Deputy in the Caucasus. He annexed the Erivan and Nakhichevan khanates to Russia. For these merits he got the title of Graf (Count) of Erivan. From 1830 to 1850 he was the Russian Emperor's Deputy in Poland. He commanded the Russian troops in the supress of the Polish uprising of 1830 - 1831 and capturing of Warsaw. In 1849 Packevich commanded the Russian army supressing the Hungary revolution of 1848 - 1849 and forced the Hungarian army to lay down its arms. In the Crimen War of 1853-1856 he was the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian troops on the western border of the Russian Empire and then on the Danube. He had the rank of General-Field-Marshal of Prussia and Austria. Military commander Paskevich is one of the four bearers of the Order of St. George of the whole 4 classes. He got the highest class of this order for capture the Turkish fortress Ezerum in 1829.
