They are armed? Shoot them! (The picture by Vereschagin) It was a sad moment. The Russian peasants in that war did not have luck every time in their struggle with the enemy that ravaged their land. The old warrior, maybe the same old man that was shown on the previous picture "Don't hurry! Let them approach! ", was not careful enough or perhaps just had overrated the strength of his men and attacked a strong French detachment of maybe even the convoy of Napoleon himself. He was taken prisoner together with two his comrades. When Napoleon got to know who are these people, his order was short: "They are armed? Shoot them! " |
