The End Of The Borodino Battle (The picture by Vereschagin) On October,26 in the evening, about 5 p.m. the Borodino battle finished. On this picture you see the French soldiers after the battle. Sabres and helmets flashed in the hands of that who were alive, everybody turned to one side, the side of the enemy and even a heavily wounded soldier had raised himself over a pile of dead bodies and brandished his sword too. What does it mean? There on the edge of the field Napoleon was seen. "Vive l'Empereur!" only this loud shout of triumph was heard in the sudden silence when all the cannons had stooped their thunder. |
